At its core, Meals on Wheels prepares and delivers nutritious meals to our neighbors who are unable or have difficulty preparing food for themselves. Outwardly, the program is pretty straightforward - the distribution of both hot and cold food to the hands of homebound seniors who need it most. However, more than just meals, the service is also a lifeline for socialization and companionship.

Stafford WinterFest

The brightest night in Stafford returns to ring in the holiday season on Saturday, December 15, 2018, from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. Presented by the Town of Stafford, WinterFest brings together favorite community traditions while offering a host of new festivities to celebrate this one-of-a-kind event on Main Street.

Residents and visitors are invited to shop, dine and explore Stafford while experiencing a host of activities throughout the afternoon. The event kicks off at 3:00 p.m. with the WinterFest Marketplace featuring food and merchant vendors at Town Hall as well as a Live Nativity performance with real actors and animals at the First United Methodist Church (8 Church Street). Refreshments and a warming area inside to follow.

The WinterFest Parade of Lights steps off at 4:00 p.m. from Olympic Park and continues to Town Hall. Intended to promote positivity while celebrating the season for all to enjoy, the parade aims to bring the community together while showcasing entries from local businesses, clubs, civic groups, and residents. Commencing just after dusk, floats, vehicles and walking groups will each be illuminated for evening viewing.

Immediately following, about 5:00 p.m., lively music and caroling with the SHS Marching Band and Choir will accompany the celebration, along with a community bonfire, all in Haymarket Common (31 Main Street). After the ceremony, Santa Claus will be waiting for families in Town Hall (1 Main Street, 2nd floor) and all children are invited to visit and take photos with this season’s most jolly rock star. Mix and mingle while enjoying refreshments and shopping with vendors, who will remain open until 7:00 p.m.

With hundreds of luminaries lighting the night on Main Street, Stafford truly comes alive with hometown holiday cheer. While celebrating the spirit of the season, participants are prompted to dress for cold weather and to be mindful of the candlelit luminaries lining walkways and public spaces. A Main Street parking ban is in effect beginning at 3:00 p.m. and a road closure is scheduled from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Parking is available at: Public Parking Lot (2 Spring Street), Stafford Municipal Parking Lot (16 River Road/Route 32), American Woolen (21 Furnace Avenue), Hyde Park Road, the Woodlawn Trailhead (opposite of Witt School), Stafford Family Services (20/21 Hyde Park Road), and on side roads, unless otherwise marked. A weather date is scheduled for Sunday, December 16, 2018.

With unique charms, abundant recreation opportunities and close proximity to numerous attractions, historic Stafford is a great place to spend the day and celebrate by night. Stafford is located seven miles from Exit 70 on Route 84, and less than 30 minutes from Sturbridge, MA, and both Manchester and Enfield, Connecticut.
