About Shining Stars:

Stafford has it all – beautiful natural landscapes, rich heritage, small town charm and unique cultural assets – but it’s our residents that are our greatest asset. There’s a lot to celebrate in this community and the “Stafford Shining Star” program recognizes the extraordinary accomplishments, generosity and contributions of citizens, local businesses, organizations and clubs. This is our chance to say “thank you” to those who perpetuate civic pride, contribute to the development of our community, have realized notable achievements or make Stafford a better place to live.

Meals on Wheels

In Stafford, the program has been on the road for over 30-years, synchronized by Community Center Director, Cheryl Maynard, Volunteer Coordinator Eunice Skopek (who has donated her own time to the cause for 22-years), and the Community Renewal Team. Each weekday meals arrive to the Senior/Community Center to be sorted and packed for delivery. On rotating shifts, some-30 different volunteers deliver 2-3 meals per month, bringing a hot lunch, a cold meal for later and a brief visit. In addition to nutrition, each dedicated volunteer gives recipients and their families valuable piece of mind while strengthening the bonds of community here in town.

Meals on Wheel is augmented by Congregate Meals at the Senior Center. Served daily, meals provide an opportunity for seniors who drive themselves or take our bus to get a hot meal, socialize and participate in the Center’s activities. The two nutrition programs ensure that the seniors in our community have access to hot, nutritious meals at an affordable price - the meals are just $2.50 each whether they are delivered or eaten in the Center - and if someone cannot afford to pay, they do not have to do so.

While Stafford is fortunate to have this dedicated network of volunteers, our aging population also continues to grow. As a participant of the “America, Let’s Do Lunch” campaign, the Stafford Senior Center hopes to spark involvement with a new generation of volunteers. When you volunteer for Meals on Wheels during your lunch hour, you’re doing your part to guarantee meals are delivered to people in need throughout Stafford. You can volunteer, typically between 11 AM and 1 PM, once a week or even monthly - whatever works best for you! For more information please call the Stafford Community and Senior Center at (860) 684-3906.

Volunteers are the backbone of this important program and it's with our most sincere appreciation we say “thanks” and recognize Stafford’s Meals on Wheels group of altruistic residents:
