Staffordville Beach Rules & Regulations

Staffordville Reservoir, locally known as Staffordville Lake, is situated along Route 19 on the Connecticut-Massachusetts border in the northeast section of town. This 149-acre waterbody is a mix of public and private ownership, with the Town's public beach located at the lake's southern end. A popular recreational amenity, the 3.47-acre town-owned recreation area is equipped with a pavilion, multipurpose game courts, field space, playscape, beach, natural areas, and school building facility. The park parcel is open daily from dawn to dusk. Visitors have access to a paved parking lot with approximately 75 spaces. The beach and recreation areas are accessible to Stafford residents, taxpayers, and their guests.

please familiarize yourself with the rules and regulations governing its use:

When Lifeguards and Gate Attendants are on duty, their role is to enforce beach rules and ensure the safety of residents using the property. All visitors are expected to treat these town staff members with respect.

Non-compliance with their instructions or any confrontational behavior will prompt police intervention and expulsion from the beach. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Staffordville Lake Beach & Pavilion Rules & regulations for usage are as follows:

  • Staffordville Beach is a "Swim at Your Own Risk" facility.   
  • The beach is open daily from dawn to dusk exclusively to Stafford residents and taxpayers. Proof of residency is required and must be presented to the Gate Guard on duty.
  • During the Summer weeks the Summer Recreation program runs for 6 weeks, from 8:30am – 3:00pm. During this time, residents are able to use the public portion of the beach but are asked to refrain from entering the youth program area or interacting with its youth campers. 
  • Consumption and possession of alcohol, marijuana, and/or illegal drugs on the property is strictly prohibited. The Police will be notified of any violations.
  • No one under the influence of alcohol or drugs is allowed in the water or onsite. NO EXCEPTIONS.
  • Offensive or lewd behaviors, abusive language, or cursing will not be tolerated. The beach is a family-oriented facility, and it's essential that all users feel welcome. Violation may result in expulsion from the beach. NO EXCEPTIONS.
  • Smoking or vaping of any kind is STRICTLY PROHIBITED on the Staffordville property. 
  • Open fires, including charcoal grills, are not allowed at Staffordville Beach. Gas grills are permitted outside the pavilion area. Absolutely no grills of any kind are allowed under the pavilion, on the picnic tables, or on the beach.
  • Glass bottles are STRICTLY PROHIBITED on the beach and in parking lot area. NO LITTERING.
  • No one under the age of 13 is permitted to swim without the accompaniment of an adult, who is responsible for the child's safety and behavior. Children must be supervised at all times. On duty lifeguards are tasked with safety and rescue, not babysitting.
  • Best practice is to keep young children within an arm's reach of an adult at all times when in the water.
  • For safety, Coast Guard approved PFDs or small children's inflatable flotation devices only. Swimmers may not bring flotation devices in deep waters or where waters exceed swimmers height. There is no public launch at the Town Beach.
  • Fishing in the swim area is prohibited.
  • Launching boats or watercraft is not allowed. This includes kayaks, canoes, paddle boards, pedal boats, row boats, or inflatable boats of any kind.
  • Swimmers must remain within the designated and buoyed swim area.
  • Pets, other than registered service animals, are NOT PERMITTED in the beach area or parking lot.
  • Additional rules posted at the Lake or enforced by Lifeguard and Gate Attendant staff must also be followed.
  • Any person(s) found violating any provisions of Staffordville Beach Ordinance 8-2 shall be fined $90.00.

The Staffordville Beach facility is under 24/7 video surveillance.

The Staffordville Beach pavilion is available for rent/reservation: 
Staffordville Beach offers one open-air pavilion available for rent from May 15 to September 30, weekends from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM and weekdays from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The rental space includes one half of the pavilion for small parties or gatherings, while the other half remains open to other resident guests.
